Now we are less than two weeks away from Ironheart dropping on Disney Plus. And for a little while there, it felt like Marvel Studios was certainly sandbagging the promotion, especially in the face of the Fantastic Four promo that’s been going on steadily for months now. And compared to a show like, say, Daredevil: Born Again, where at this point we had already had several trailers and TV spots.
They decided to hold all the promo and all the trailer footage until about a month before it’s dropped. Now, usually this indicates that Marvel Studios is not too high on the show. And in fact, their release schedule would also indicate this, much like Echo. They’re basically dropping the whole series within one week. And keep in mind, I first saw the first trailer for this all the way back in 2022, almost three full years ago. This does not spell Disney and Marvel being confident in this project is something that they want to promote. However,
I spoke to two sources who have seen varying amounts of the Ironheart series over the last week, and what they had to say about the series actually sort of surprised me. I’m going to break down exactly what they said in their early opinions of Ironheart, but first, if you could grab the subscribe button. Thanks to everyone who’s been subscribing lately and helped grow the channel. Thank you so much. And if you haven’t already, we’ll just kindly invite you to do so. It’s the number one thing you can do to support us at the channel. Plus, it’ll enter you for the giveaways if you want. Stick around at the end of the video. We’ll get into all the giveaway stuff again there.
Okay, so brass tacks and no sugarcoating, this is exactly what I’ve been told about Ironheart. First up, overall, I’ve been told it’s actually pretty good and that it is nowhere near as bad as some of those early Disney Plus shows. Side note, even though it was an artifact of the regime of Bob Chapek, where he was basically instructing Marvel to produce anything and everything they could, it is significantly better than the earlier offerings in Phase 4 and Phase 5 on Disney Plus. The next thing I was told is that there were pacing issues within a couple of the episodes.
during the show. Look, that’s nothing new for Disney Plus. It’s been my number one gripe the entire time that they don’t know how to pace TV shows. So I am not surprised to hear this at all. It also indicates why they chose to release it with three episodes the first week and three episodes the second week, sort of balancing out that awkward pacing in a couple of the episodes by giving us more of the story all at once. That makes sense.
But I’m also going to do a little inference here and read between the lines. That awkward pacing is most likely due to over-editing, where, like Echo, they carved out huge chunks of the series because it simply didn’t work, and that oftentimes can create some holes or basically awkward time jumps in scenes that don’t seem to make sense. Now, on a super positive note, I was told that the CGI is some of the best ever offered by Disney+, and this is a huge, huge relief because the CGI has been another huge problem. Obviously shows like She-Hulk
where she looked like Gumby in half of those office scenes. Or even some of the films in phase four and phase five have had pretty subpar CGI, but you have to wonder, since the CGI is so good in this show, if they didn’t take several years to actually work on it, which added to the fact that they showed trailer footage in 2022 and haven’t released it now in 2025. Again, a lot of people were guessing that Disney and Marvel were basically sandbagging the entire series because it wasn’t good.
And really, that’s not the takeaway I got from this, but the sentiment is the same as I think it was for what we’ve been hearing about the numbers here recently. And this was from both of the sources that I talked to: while it is a good show, it’s not an amazing show. And even an amazing show isn’t enough to outdo and undo the damage that’s been done by the bad shows. I don’t know how many of you have friends that at one point were all in, like we are in the MCU, and keeping up with everything.
and then slowly tapped out and didn’t even watch some of the MCU’s better offerings on Disney+, like Loki Season 2, which is an absolute masterpiece; some of my die-hard Marvel fans haven’t even seen it. And really, we’ve seen a symptom of this same problem at the box office with Brave New World, but more specifically, The Thunderbolts, which was an amazing Marvel movie and, by a lot of metrics and people’s opinions, underperformed.
And so again, really the takeaway here is that this show probably never had a chance given what’s already happened at Disney+, the same way that Daredevil didn’t even break meals in SoundScan. It was suffering because of how bad Marvel has been with their TV shows. Ironheart certainly wasn’t going to stand a chance if Daredevil didn’t, and I’m just being honest, brass tacks. That being said, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad show, and for the upcoming multiverse saga and beyond, it sounds like, and from the promo we’ve seen,
that the Hood is meant to set up a magical side, a supernatural side of the universe that’s definitely going to continue on into the future of the MCU. And of course, Dominique Thorne basically just confirmed Ironheart will be in Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars. When asked point-blank that question, she said, quote, “The odds may be in my favor.” So I think for diehard Marvel fans who want the continuation of the canon in the story, there might be a lot of good in here, but is it enough to save Marvel to bring people back to be a harbinger of the change that they’re trying to make? No.
Only hits are going to do that, real true hits. And in some cases, even if a show or movie is amazing, it’s not going to be enough. They’ve got to earn that trust back through their track record. And really, it’s Fantastic Four, Avengers Doomsday, and Avengers Secret Wars. These three movies are going to be an enormous litmus test, not just for the box office bottom line. Oh, because it will be. If the Fantastic Four doesn’t break a billion dollars, trust me, there are going to be internal meetings. People are not going to be happy. And it’s kind of crazy to think, because I personally don’t think it will.
I know Deadpool and Wolverine managed to do that last year, but I still think that billion-dollar mark is something that became maybe a little too common for Marvel at the height of its brand, and let’s face it, guys, given everything we said during this video, we are nowhere near that. So if Fantastic Four should come out and do even 800 or 700 million, I think that’s a lot more reasonable of a number, but still, Marvel wants all of these movies to hit a billion, and when we’re talking about that and then comparing it to say something like an Ironheart Disney Plus show,
That’s a relic and was shot four or five years ago and has literally been sitting on the shelves at Marvel Studios for half a decade. I just don’t think there was a lot to anticipate being there anyway. And because of that, it might actually overperform because the onus isn’t on it to save Marvel. I don’t think anybody’s looking at it like that. So my takeaway again is that it’s probably going to be awesome for Marvel fans. It’s not going to make waves. It’s not going to shake up the industry. It’s not going to be anything.
crazy. And quite honestly, for a time when we would be expecting some more setup and tie-ins for maybe Young Avengers or Champions or the upcoming multiverse saga, Doomsday Secret Wars, remember this was shot four or five years ago, forever ago. So any sort of tie-in in that greater sense, I just wouldn’t be expecting it unless they did some last-minute reshoots for a post-credit scene after the series, in which case, why would that be the most important thing after six episodes? So not a lot to anticipate as far as setup for the bigger picture.
for the Secret Wars saga, but maybe down the road with the villain wink wink that they introduce if the rumors are true. But you guys let me know all your thoughts down below and your reaction to any and all of this. And are any of you guys planning on watching Ironheart? Like I said, we will do watch parties both weeks for each three episodes.
